The Misterioso 2014 was made from a blend of mostly Grenache and Syrah. It contains a small amount of Mourvedre and carignan as well. This wine is sourced from our ‘Les Rabasses’ vineyard which consists entirely of classic blue/grey schist. The Grenache and Mourvedre vines are trained in the traditional ‘Goblet’ style while the Syrah sits across the top of the hill and is trained on pallisage. The vineyards have been minimally worked to avoid compaction of the subsoil and sprayed with organic sprays to prevent mildew.
The varieties were picked separately with an aim to make a wine that was fresh and fruity with soft tannins. We tasted the grapes until they fit this profile then harvested them by hand. The grapes were sorted in the vineyards so only the best quality fruit arrived at the cellar.
This wine has a deep rich ripe cherry appearance. The aromas are of baked dark cherries, roasted peanuts, leather and nutmeg spice smells too. The palate is again dominated by cherries but there is some attractive strawberry characters, dried herbs and pepper combined with fine tannins. The wine finishes dry but a balanced acidity helps to lengthen the palate.
